We’ve been getting lots of questions regarding the COVID vaccine booster (3rd dose) and wanted to clarify what we’re doing.
Western Drug is only offering the Moderna and J&J (we are currently out of stock of J&J but hope to get some more in soon) covid vaccines. At this time the 3rd dose of Moderna is only recommended for individuals who have an active cancer diagnosis, HIV, or are an organ transplant recipient, OR an equal level of immunosuppression due to certain medications. Outside of these very specific exemptions, we are not offering a 3rd dose of Moderna to individuals because it has not been approved by the CDC and FDA. If and when that changes, we will gladly begin scheduling appointments for that 3rd dose. If you received Pfizer for your 1st and 2nd dose of the COVID vaccine, it is not recommended that you get the Moderna as a 3rd booster.
In order for us to be able to administer covid vaccines, we must adhere to guidelines released by the CDC and FDA and will only administer covid vaccines within the parameters of those guidelines.
We recommend that you do NOT reach out to your doctor requesting a variance or exemption from the guidelines regarding booster shots, we simply will not administer the 3rd dose unless you qualify.
If you have any questions regarding our policy in this regard, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us in the pharmacy at (928)333-2916.
Thank you!!
